Shelter / San Francisco 2014

Shelter is the first work after the arrival in San Francisco. When living in the Mission district the observer soon discovered a strong presence of a Homeless population. The various forms of temporary shelters build from found materials in an exposed setting raised the thought on the own homelessness. A setting in an empty studio serving as the body using random items collected visualizing the own dialog. The shelters built and ever transforming, angles, points of view, creating places, spaces. Hand carved objects made with time, nowhere to go….

Sheltered / Mill Valley 2018

Hand carved objects extracted. As part of the self exposure to time and becoming a participant when working on Shelter four objects were created in form of a partial tree branch, a hook, a “handschmeichler” worry stone and a primitive “allround” tool. These objects became “evidential sculptures” in 2018 as part of the ongoing process of home less / more or the questioning on what to keep and what to leave behind forever.
