orbis / Mill Valley 2020

Consisting of modulus navigatio, coniciet and partem

orbis a sculptural landscape, a journey into space. Visualizing the inner and outer sphere. While modulus navigatio and coniciet are an entity, partem is an independent extension and mainly exists in the outer sphere. When creating this sculpture a variety of elements where present. Furniture as the object on the inside of a vessel. Common objects and signals. Colortime being the most dominant. This work can be seen as one of the most important pieces on the journey of Tian Harlan’s heritage and how the spirit is expressed through the own experience when working with the theme “visualizing time”. This work surounds itself and is in close company with open house, shelter, nowandnever as well as the instant work and then.

 modulus navigatio

S(h)elfstool a voyage module. A visualization of the inner compass/ reflection extracted in form of sculptural furniture. At the core a clockwork with only one hand. Time ticking away the rhythm of the second potentially creating some discomfort, creating awareness. The vertical axe the momentum connected to the base, the seating platform. A place to contemplate. The horizontal axe reaching out, dynamic an arrow suggesting direction, an armrest providing confidence. Using chalk on the surface, ephemeral, powerful as the ever changing blueprint to the own voyage. I am the architect of the self.

Wood, nails, clockwork, chalkboard paint

coniciet

coniciet visualizes/verbalizes found direction/projection. Breaking through to the outside while modulus navigatio being the inner sphere. Reflection (modulus navigatio) / Projection (coniciet) as the entity and true expression of a sculptural landscape.

wood, chalk board paint, metal screws

partem

To connect back to the clockwork as the inner motion one element of coniciet was converted into a skateboard, the outer motion always pointing into the chosen direction. Free after Johan Huizinga’s Homo Ludens and because we love skateboarding.

wood, chalk board paint, vintage roller skate trucks/wheels.
